Special Events at
Chenrezig Institute

The centre celebrates various important annual events including the four most holy days in the Tibetan Buddhist Calendar – on these days it is believed that the effects of both positive and negative actions are multiplied ten million times.

These are:

Chotrul Duchen - ‘Great Day of Miraculous Manifestations’, occurring on the full moon, the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in the Tibetan calendar.

Saka Dawa - Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana. Culminating on the fifteenth day of the fourth Tibetan month.

Chokhor Duchen - Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s first teaching. After his enlightenment under the bodhi tree, Shakyamuni Buddha rested in the profundity of that experience for seven weeks. After many supplications, he agreed to teach what he had realised.

Lhabab Duchen - Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s return to earth from the God Realm of the Thirty-Three after teaching for several months to the gods, including his mother Mahamaya.

We also set aside days to celebrate The anniversary of Lama Tsongkhapa founder of the Gelug Traditions, Losar and the passing of our founder Lama Thubten Yeshe, and the birthdays of our precious teachers, His Holiness Dalai Lama, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche and Geshe Tsultrim. These days are filled with practice and rejoicing and we invite the whole community.
