Visit Chenrezig Institute
Chenrezig welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, with regular practices, pujas, teachings, courses, special events and Buddhist celebrations taking place. See our calendar for full details.
Our Reception and Dharma Shop are open from 9.00am – 3.00pm Thursday to Sunday
Our Big Love Cafe is open from Wednesday to Sunday 9.00am to 3.00pm. The cafe offers coffee and cake on Wednesdays and a full vegetarian lunch on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lunch should be booked online 24 hours ahead for each of these days, using the button below.
The Library is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10.00am – 2.00pm.
The Art Studio is open 8.30am to 3.00pm Tuesday to Sunday.
Guests are welcome to visit all parts of the property except the area to the right and back of the meditation hall, the accommodation area for the nuns’ community. Please try to maintain quiet as much as possible here, around the meditation hall itself, and to the left of this, where retreat huts are situated.
As a Buddhist study and meditation centre, we understand the importance of spirituality in our society, and its role in helping our young people to be more compassionate and to make their lives more meaningful. We have designed a School Visits program to introduce young people to our philosophy and practices and to support them in the learning of world religions and traditions as part of their Study of Religion subject.
Free guided tours are available as part of our introductory program, on the first and third Saturday of each month at 10.45 and take about 1 hour. We ask visitors to register through our online calendar – numbers will be limited.
VISITORS are always welcome at our centre from Tuesday to Sunday
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE may be ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES For some disabled, elderly, or sick visitors
Chenrezig is set in steep hills with many steps, narrow pathways and uneven surfaces, so some areas are very difficult to access for our less mobile guests.
If you are considering a visit, and are concerned about accessibility, we recommend you contact us by email at info@chenrezig.com.au in advance to discuss what help may be available.
Visitors with a disability parking permit may follow the winding road which is to the left of the main steps. There is one disabled parking space available close to reception.
Those without permits may be driven up the same road to the drop-off area. We ask that your driver then returns to the main carpark to park, as we need to keep the drop-off area free.
Unfortunately, we do not currently have disabled bathroom facilities on site. The main toilet block is along a flat path from the cafe (with one step) but the path is narrow.
The route to the meditation hall is steep and pushing a wheelchair up there can be quite difficult. There is road access to drop people at the back of the meditation hall, but cars need to be taken back down the hill since there is no parking there. Entrance to the meditation hall is possible through the back door and down a ramp to the seating area.
To create and maintain an environment supportive of a spiritual life we request that all our guests follow some simple requirements to ensure a pleasant and harmonious stay.
While you are on the property please make every attempt to abide by:
Five Lay Precepts
- Respect all life: do not intentionally kill any living being, even small insects.
- Respect others’ property: do not steal or take anything not freely given.
- Be honest and straightforward: do not lie or intentionally deceive others.
- There should be no sexual activity especially on ‘the hill’, the area above the carpark where the meditation hall and the nunnery are situated.
- No intoxicants such as alcohol, drugs and cigarettes are acceptable.
Please do not bring animals onto the property, except on specially nominated animal blessing days, or of course, in the case of guide dogs or assistance dogs.
Our Dress Code
We respectfully ask that you and your guests, consider our monks and nuns and observe our dress code in all public places, especially on the ‘hill’ and in the meditation hall. Please do not wear revealing clothing, low-cut or strappy tops, see-through clothing or very tight attire. Shirts with long or short sleeves, covering the upper body and shoulders, and pants or dresses, that are knee-length or longer, are appropriate for all public areas.
Keep in touch with our community. Follow our Facebook page and subscribe to our regular newsletter using the button below to keep in touch with what’s happening and to receive updates.
Chenrezig Institute has implemented a COVID-safe plan for places of worship, as advised by Queensland Health. We ask that you follow all protocols when you visit.

How to get here
OUR ADDRESS
Chenrezig Institute
33 Johnsons Road, Eudlo, QLD, 4554
Please note:
If using GPS enter Chenrezig Institute instead of the road name and number. This should ensure you are directed here on sealed roads. Using the street name may take you down extensive local dirt roads. Alternatively, choose sealed roads only in your device.
travelling by train
The nearest train station is at Eudlo, about 7km away. Eudlo is served by the Sunshine Coast line, from Brisbane via Caboolture. There is an automated machine at the station to top-up your Go Card and basic toilet facilities in the nearby park.
Train timetables can be viewed at the Translink website or phone 13 12 30 for information.
There is no public transport to Chenrezig from Eudlo and unfortunately we cannot offer a pick-up service. Eudlo does not have a taxi rank. To avoid a long wait for a taxi, we recommend you pre-book a taxi to meet the arrival of your train. Eudlo is a small settlement, with just a general store, post office, and cafe.

IF ARRIVING AT SUNSHINE COAST AIRPORT
The closest airport is at Maroochydore (Sunshine Coast Airport), a 35 minute drive away. There is no direct public transport from the airport to Eudlo or Chenrezig. Taxi is the only way to get here. Check here for a Uber estimate. A public bus service goes from the airport to Maroochydore, but you would still need to arrange a taxi from Maroochydore to Chenrezig.
IF ARRIVING AT BRISBANE AIRPORT
Brisbane Airport is about 22 minutes from Brisbane city and has a direct connection to the Sunshine Coast train line via the Airtrain line, changing lines at Eagle Junction station. The train journey from the airport (domestic and international) to Eudlo takes between 1.5 – 2.5 hours, depending on the connection. At Eudlo, you would need to hire a taxi to Chenrezig, which is 7kms away. To avoid a long wait, ensure you pre-book a taxi to pick you up at Eudlo station . We are in a very secluded area and taxis need to travel some distance to the station. There is no taxi rank at Eudlo.
IF HIRING A CAR AT BRISBANE AIRPORT
The trip from Brisbane by car takes about two hours or more, depending on traffic.
travelling by car
As we are in a relatively secluded spot we have attempted to give the best possible directions below. If you don’t have GPS or Google/Apple maps, the written instructions are quite detailed.
When using a GPS or navigation app like Google/Apple maps we recommend you enter Chenrezig Institute rather than our street address. Navigation systems often show the route through Mooloolah via Neil Road/Brooks Road, but we do not recommend this route. It’s a gravel road, at times narrow and windy.
Make your way to Eudlo township by any of the following routes:
via Chevallum/Palmwoods coming from Bruce Highway Exit 201 (Forest Glen) coming north or from the south – Chevallum/Mons Road.
via Ilkley Road coming from Forest Glen or Sippy Downs.
via Eudlo-Mooloolah Road coming from Landsborough/Mooloolah
When you reach the township of Eudlo, enter Highlands Road (entrance is between the tennis court and public school). You should see a blue Chenrezig Institute road sign on a pole.
Travel along Highlands Road for 4km. At the end of the sealed road turn left onto Rambert Road. There should be a blue Chenrezig Institute road sign.
After about 2km, pass under the high voltage power line and keep going straight to Chenrezig Institute following the timber CHENREZIG sign on your right.
After a short drive you will pass under a Tibetan welcome gate. Continue up the hill until you reach the first of two car parks. The steps in between the two car parks lead up to Chenrezig.
Disabled access: people with disabilities or difficulties walking up the long main stairs can drive to the drop-off / disabled parking zone close to reception by following the driveway on the left of the main stairs, signposted authorised vehicles only.
IMPORTANT
Rambert Road does NOT connect to the Maleny-Montville Rd, as indicated in some maps. Access to villages on the range is via Palmwoods or Mooloolah.
