School Visits

School Visits Program

Chenrezig Institute is committed to supporting our local community to flourish. As a Buddhist
study and meditation centre, we understand the importance of religion and spirituality in our
society and their role in helping young people to be more compassionate and making their lives
more meaningful.

We have designed a School Visits program to complement teachers’ work and support high
school students in the learning of world religions and traditions as part of their Study of Religion
subject. The program provides an opportunity for students to explore what we do as a Buddhist
community, learn about Buddhist concepts and practices, and get an insight into Buddhism,
promoting positive thinking, kindness, and mindfulness.

Teachers and students can participate in talks and meditations offered by our nuns and monks,
interact with members of our community, and have a guided tour of our centre. It is an exciting
way to gain an understanding of the Buddhist tradition while embracing the calmness and peace
of our welcoming surroundings.

What’s Included

School visits are offered from Monday to Friday, and they last for approximately two hours and
forty-five minutes.

The program generally includes:

  • A visit to the Gompa (Our Temple) for an Introduction to Chenrezig Institute, a Guided Meditation and a Q & A Session
  • A visit to the Garden of Enlightenment to view the Stupas and learn about holy objects
  • Lunch and Food Offering Practices in the Big Love Café.

Chenrezig Institute only caters for lunches from Thursday to Sunday, but students are welcome to
bring their own lunch any day of the week. The Big Love Café facilities and seating area will be
available for enjoying lunch in a peaceful environment.

For school visits on a Thursday or Friday, a vegetarian lunch option is available in the Big Love Café. When booking your school visit, please let us know if you would like to book lunch, so we can check with our cooks, since we cater to numbers.

Our School Visits Coordinator – Sara Lucia Silva

Sara Lucia Silva is a Teacher Aide at a primary school in Redcliffe. She has been volunteering at Chenrezig Institute since 2015. In 2018, she started to coordinate the School Visits program, organising the visits, scheduling activities, and providing schools with the information required for the visit. She is very pleased to be able to combine her Buddhist and teaching knowledge, supporting schools and students visiting Chenrezig Institute.

  2. Expected arrival time
