Two Day Meditation Retreat with Jhampa
23 July @ 9:00 am - 24 July @ 3:00 pm AEST$60.00
“Withdrawal can be the best way of stepping forward, and done well, a beautiful, freeing act of compassion.” David Whyte
Meditation is often mistakenly regarded as a disappearance or an escape, an escape from one’s life, responsibilities and commitments. Yet, to meditate is not to disappear or escape but to withdraw, to withdraw from exhausting constant entanglement and to then reappear again in the world renewed in a very real way.
This weekend meditation retreat will be an opportunity to withdraw and abide for two days in the natural environment of Chenrezig Institute and connect with one’s own experience through meditation, discussion, reflection and silence. The main practice will be drawing upon the methods of Shamatha meditation, “soothing the body, stilling the mind and illuminating awareness.”
This retreat will encourage a temporary disconnection from our daily engagements with the world and hence there will be periods of silence to assist in deepening the meditative experience.
It is recommended (though not essential) that prior to attending this retreat, participants attend at least one Meditation Practice Day with Jhampa (Karl) to reap the full benefits of the time in the weekend retreat. (These are scheduled 29 Jan, 23 Apr and 28 May)
Jhampa (Karl William Gratton) was a monk at Chenrezig Institute for many years and is now a qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor working in private practice on the Sunshine Coast and online. His meditation days at Chenrezig Institute include creative and integrative presentations and perspectives on meditation, mind and being human, as well as guidance in practice.
