Mindful Writing with Sharon Thrupp and Brooke Maddison

23 April @ 9:30 am - 24 April @ 4:00 pm AEST

About Event:

This retreat seeks to help you to share your voice with the world — whether that be to write a personal story, pitch and publish your work, keep a journal, improve your writing skills, or simply increase your levels of joy and satisfaction.
Over the weekend we will discover how writing can be a transformative tool for self-discovery, meaningful connection to others and an overall sense of wellness. We will use simple mindfulness techniques such as breathing, relaxation, meditation, focus and insight exercises to enhance your powers of creativity and expression.
The retreat will also cover how to carve out time for creativity, find and keep track of publishing opportunities, pitch your ideas, major publishing must-knows and editorial tips and tricks.
Whether your goals are writing a memoir, blogging, public speaking, business communications, social media posting, personal essay or journal writing, this weekend is for students with all motivations. All levels of experience and goals are welcome.
There will be plenty of time to sit and write throughout the 2 days. Please bring a book and pen or a laptop, depending on your preference.  Retreatants will be able to join with Chenrezig’s activities in the Main Gompa including morning and evening activities.
Sharon lived in India for 20 years and started her own travel company, Ekno Travels, when she saw the need to provide safe, affordable travel for single women. Since then she has introduced countless travellers to the uniqueness of India, as well as helping to organise wonderful tours/pilgrimages for Chenrezig Institute. Living and working in India has taught Sharon many valuable lessons in life and she loves to entertain her fellow travelers with her stories. Since returning to the Sunshine Coast, Sharon has been writing her stories and teaching mindful writing courses to a growing audience.
Brooke Maddison is a writer and editor working on unceded Turrbal and Yuggera land. She is completing a Masters of Writing, Editing and Publishing at the University of Queensland and is the founder and co-editor of Crackle (Corella Press, 2021), the university’s anthology of creative writing. Her work has been published by Kill Your Darlings, Time Out, Antithesis and Spineless Wonders, among others. She has a mentorship with University of Queensland Press and is a 2022 recipient of The Next Chapter fellowship.

This second workshop follows on from the one offered in January 2022 but it is not necessary to have attended this retreat as well. Sharon and Brooke have so much to offer all those who attend, experienced or not.

Once again this weekend workshop will be offered in the peaceful Wellbeing Centre surrounded by trees and birds.

Register to attend:

The recommended fee for this two-day workshop is $120, with a minimum fee of $60.
