Annual Mani Retreat
Developing compassion for all beings through visualisation meditation and mantra recitation
At the request of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, we schedule a Mani Retreat each year and have done so since Rinpoche himself started the practice with us in 2000.
This year we shall start the retreat by taking the Chenrezig Initiation with His Holiness Dalai Lama from an online initiation he gave and recorded in May 2020!
Geshela will teach at 10.30 on Sunday 7 November and retreaters are encouraged to attend, although this is not strictly part of the retreat and rooms will not be ready until the afternoon.
The retreat will start with the Preparation Session for the initiation at 4.30 pm and participants will then take the actual initiation at 10.00 am on Monday 8th November. All those wishing to take Monday’s initiation must attend the preparation session on Sunday either at the centre or online at home, unless they have previously received this initiation.
The retreat will continue with five sessions of led meditations per day, sessions which include visualising Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), generating great compassion for all beings, and reciting the mantra of Chenrezig OM MANI PADME HUM, until midday on Friday, 12th November.
All are welcome to attend this beautiful retreat. There is no need to have taken the initiation, and people may attend one day, or even part of a day, if that is all they can manage.
Because of our limited staff and volunteer numbers, we will ask that retreaters perform certain karma yoga jobs and bring their own bed linen and towels.
about our teacher:
Geshe Tsultrim will attend some of the retreat and may give some instruction but the main teacher and coordinator will be Ven Ailsa Cameron.
Ven Ailsa, famous for her amazing efforts with our annual Nyung Nay retreats, will lead this lovely retreat with her usual care for those attending, making the whole experience both powerful and enjoyable.
Ven Ailsa edited Teachings from the Mani Retreat: Chenrezig Institute, December 2000, a beautiful book of Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s teachings during our very first Mani Retreat twenty-one years ago (a book that you can purchase at the moment for only $1.03 on Amazon). We are very fortunate that she will lead the retreat this year.
Sunday: 4.30pm – 8.00pm
Monday – Thursday: 6.00am – 8.00pm
Friday: 6.00am – 12.00pm
We plan to film the afternoon session on the first day (Monday 8 Nov) and make it available on YouTube for those wishing to do the practice at home. Details here soon.
The recommended facility fee for the entire five days of the retreat is only $100. If you are attending for less than that time, and wish to make a reduced contribution please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for a discount coupon.
With a number of people already booked in for the entire retreat, accommodation is now being offered to all, including those only able to attend one or two days. Because of our limited staff, retreaters are asked to bring their own linen and towels and to help with housekeeping duties.
Accommodation and meals must be booked through email@example.com No online bookings can be made for these days.
