Buddhist Tenets

About Event:

This third part of the Basic Program subject, Buddhist Tenets, teaches the Middle Way Schools, in which the assertions become more and more subtle leading us through those of the Middle Way Autonomists to the highest view of the Middle Way Consequence School. We learn how these schools assert external objects and persons, and, through listening, reflection and meditation, come closer to realising the most subtle view of emptiness, necessary to remove all our obscurations and allow us to attain full enlightenment for the benefit of all!

With his excellent interpreter, Ven Kartson, Geshe Phuntsok will gently encourage us to open our minds to these new and complex concepts with plenty of time for questions, discussion and meditation.

Again the daily schedule (three days each week) will include morning meditation followed by a daily teaching; after lunch there will be discussion (to help clarify doubts) and a tutorial with Ven Kartson. Students who want to get the most out of this important subject are encouraged to attend all sessions (either inhouse or online) and to follow the review questions and take the regular tests.

About our Teachers:

Geshe Phuntsok Tsultrim is immensely popular for the warm and approachable way in which he presents the Dharma and inspires our community. He became a monk at Sera Je Monastery in India, where he was awarded his Geshe degree (the equivalent of a doctorate in Buddhist studies) in 2005. He began teaching at Chenrezig Institute in 2014 after being chosen for our community by Lama Zopa Rinpoche. He teaches in Tibetan with the help of his professional translator, Ven. Kartson.

Geshe Tsultrim has a warm hearted, caring and practical approach to teaching Dharma. He has been the resident Geshe at Chenrezig Institute since 2014. Since then he has taught Dharma both inside the Gompa and by the example he sets outside amongst the community.

Ven Kartson, a basic program graduate and the interpreter at Chenrezig Institute for 15 years, also teaches the tutorials for these in depth teachings. He has a very clear understanding of the material and is able to explain the details of Geshela’s teachings with good humour and day-to-day examples.
