Chenrezig Institute offers a unique opportunity to live, study, and mediate within a monastic community in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Our setting is aimed to support people undertaking their own retreats or retreats offered by the centre. In the words of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, our Spiritual Director, we aim to offer; “a holiday from negative karma, a holiday from the three poisonous minds and the self-cherishing thoughts, a holiday from the self-grasping of the person and phenomena, a holiday from the wrong concepts…”

As a guest or retreatant, you are able to participate in our regular teaching program which includes the Buddhist Studies Program; Discovering Buddhism course, weekend courses, and regular meditation and teaching classes. Please go to our teaching program page for more information on the program.

To support your practice; you can make an appointment with our main teacher Geshe Lobsang Jamyang as well as our Sangha (nuns and monks) to ask questions and request advice.

The centre also has an expansive library hosting books, journals, videos, and DVDs. The library can be accessed most days and evenings.

All people, from those just beginning their spiritual journey to experienced practioners, are welcome at Chenrezig Institute. You don’t need to be Buddhist to come and stay at Chenrezig Institute; but you do need to have an open heart and mind and a commitment to live by the five lay precepts (listed below) while you are here.

The combination of our study program, community living and natural setting in the Sunshine Coast hinterland is sure to provide you with a conducive environment to develop and advance your spiritual practice.
